On Saturday November 24th, 140 competitors, 24 referees, motodashi, kakari-in & enthousiasts had their annual ‘rendez-vous’ in Auderghem for the national “kyu” (beginners) tournaments.
The day was also an opportunity for some of the participants to try ‘ikkyu’ or ‘shodan’ examination.
Thanks everybody for making this day so big that we are thinking about a new formula for next year which will make the event even more enjoyable for all…

On the first weekend of October, for the 4th year in a row, the Belgian National Kendo Team staff organized a complete weekend seminar which is the occasion of introducing the personal view on kendo of a foreign high-ranked teacher. This year, the invitation went to Lorenzo Zago, Renshi 7th dan, member of the Italian federation. Participants were basically those interested in a selection for the upcoming EKC. Group picture was taken at the beginning of the second session; Yamamoto & Hamada sensei are missing since they skipped this part of the seminar. (Clikc on the picture to see everybody…)
The 11th EJC were held in Brussels and organized by our Federation last weekend. All results & pictures could be found at the dedicated website. But, please find here some words from ABKF President regarding this event:
Dear Friends,
The organization of the European Jodo Championships in Brussels was very successful.
I ‘d like to thank each one of you for all the great work that have been done during those days.
I’ve received, as a president, only congratulations for the organization and also the wonderful spirit of our members.
I’m quiet sure that our action for the development of Jodo across Europe and in our country is going on very well.
I also would like to address my warming congratulations to our Jodoka and their coaches for their fantastic results.
We can all be proud of our Federation!
Future is right in front of us, and seems to be bright 😉
We have lived together a great moment of Budo friendship.
Thanks again and for Belgium : Hip hip hip…. 😀

The Belgian delegation joined world’s greatest gathering this year in Novara (Italy). Important meetings of FIK & EKF had also place before the tournament. More info will be available through your dojo leaders soon regarding the decisions taken.
On the first day, 4 out of 7 from our men delegation members took part in the individual competition. One of them, Carroll Tange arrived in the final best 8 top and will be rewarded with a “Fighting Spirit” at the end of the day.
Second day was “Ladies day”. 4 of our ladies took part in the individual competition and the entire team had their job to do by trying to win the first place of their pool of 4 to make a chance for the final round. No chance for none of them this time but clear points to work on appeared.
Third and last day was the men team competition. Belgium was put in the only pool of 4 countries where only 1 country could end into the final grid. After real strong fights against Taipei, Germany & Norway, we couldn’t make it this time but got plenty of congratulations and encouragements for the future from other delegations & teachers.
Finally, the delegation would like to thank deeply the commitment of Hirakawa sensei and the numerous supporters who made the trip to Novara.
All results of 15th WKC are available at FIK & dedicated WKC website & plenty of pictures can be found on the different social networks as well…
Next year, the EKC will be in Berlin, Germany from 12th until 14th of May… We count on you all!
The 15th iaido championships organised this year by the BKR took place sunday 27/05/2012 in Louvain-La-Neuve (Blocry) and started at 10:30 sharp. The hall had been nicely prepared with 2 shiaijo and a warming-up area.
6 referees were appointed for each shiaijo (A & B) which made it possible to switch on a regular base. As the matches went on, soon it became as hot inside the hall, as it was outside …
The morning competition ended at 13:00 and we could restart at 14:30 with the finals and Embu taikai for 5 dan. We did not have enough 6th Dan and up referees, that is why an alternative competition had been worked out : 10 competitors (2 from each division) were invited to watch the Embu of the 8x 5th Dan and to write down 3 numbers in order of preference. This allowed us to make a final result. Starting from next year it is the plan to organise a regular 5th Dan competition as well.
After this we had some 14 examination candidates, an embu of the 6th & 7th dan and the awards ceremony.
